RADON MITIGATION

Radon in Colorado

In Colorado the average home has a 52% chance of having radon levels above the EPA action level of 4.0 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). Radon has no color, odor or taste and doesn't cause short-term symptoms of illness - radon causes cancer. Radon exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, according to the surgeon general and is estimated to cause about 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year in the United States. Many homeowners in the Denver metro area believe that because their home isn't located in the mountains radon isn't a problem - high radon levels have been found in all parts of Colorado. Approximately half the homes have radon levels higher than the EPA recommended action level of 4 pCi/l.

Why should you choose a certified, licensed radon mitigator?

Our company is certified in Radon Mitigation - radon systems require technical know-how because every home is unique. Radon certification and licensing involves over 40 credit hours from an accredited institution and if you chose an average contractor who hasn't been through the certification process there's every chance that your contractor doesn't have the knowledge on how to properly mitigate radon gasses. Radon mitigation systems

A radon mitigation system can be installed in either a crawl space, basement or crawl space basement combination.

CRAWL SPACE RADON MITIGATION:
In order to properly mitigate radon gasses you need a vapor barrier on the floor of your crawl space that is radon rated. If your home doesn't already have a radon rated vapor barrier we will lay a radon rated vapor barrier across the floor of your crawl space with corrugated perforated piping underneath the vapor barrier at the perimeter of the crawl space. The corrugated perforated pipe will then be connected to a PVC pipe that will exit the home (usually at the rim joist) to be connected to a radon fan outside of the home. The fan will then be connected to a PVC pipe that will be plumbed to 12" above the roofline to ensure the radon gasses exit away from the home.

BASEMENT RADON MITIGATION:
Basement radon mitigation can be installed in 1 of 2 ways - either in an existing sump pit or boar into the concrete floor of a basement to create a suction pit underneath the foundation of the home. A PVC pipe will then be inserted into either the sump pit or the suction pit and exit the home at the rim joist to be connected to a radon fan outside of the home. The fan will then be connected to a PVC pipe that will be plumbed to 12" above the roofline to ensure the radon gasses exit away from the home.
